Prado Museum

Pradopostcard Considered one of the world's most important art galleries, it exhibits paintings by Goya, Velázquez, Murillo, Zurbarán, El Greco, Ribera, Titian, Boticelli, Tintoretto, El Bosco, Rubens, Van Dyck, Poussin and Durer. The collection of decorative arts features the Tesoro del Delfín. There are displays of classical Greek and Roman sculpture. Carlos III commissioned Juan de Villanueva to design this beautiful building, which was converted into an art gallery in 1819. There is a cafe, bookshop, souvenir shop, conference room, and reference library. Admission: EUR6; students, EUR3.

Alentejo

Alentejo Alentejo is a region located on south-central Portugal and is separated from the rest of Portugal by the Tagus river, extending itself to the south. We have four sub-regions in Alentejo, the Alto (High) Alentejo, the Baixo (Lower) Alentejo, the Alentejo Central, and the Alentejo Litoral. The main cities are Évora (capital of the region), Santarém, Portalegre, Beja, and Sines. On its countryside we find from open rolling plains of the south of the Alentejo to granite hills bordering Spain in the north-east, and several public dams constructed to feed the water needs of the region, being the most important the Alqueva Dam.

Esgueira

Esgueira_1 Esgueira is an urban parish located in the municipality of Aveiro, and the production and commerce of salt is very important. References can be found since 1057, related to sea water of this parish and the great wealth of this zone. Sports are the second important activitie, with the success in Basketball of the Clube do Povo de Esgueira and the  Associação Desportiva de Taboeira, a soccer association that also dedicates to futsal, badminton, gymnastics and traditional games.

Aveiro

AveiroAveiro is a city and the seat of the municipality of Aveiro and also the capital of the Aveiro District, located on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. It is famous for its traditional sweets, the ovos-moles and the trouxas de ovos, both made from eggs. Sometimes it is called "The Portuguese Venice", for its canals and boats that remind of the Italian city of Venice, as the city faced similar problems when it tried to conquer the water. The city is also famous for its production of salt and seaweed harvest, used for fertilizer in the area. It has a great historical heritage, since its dates back to the 10th century, and has many historical buildings to visit, like the Convento de Jesus from the 15th century.

Cabo da Roca

Cabo_da_rocaCabo da Roca is a cape that forms the most western point of mainland Portugal and of mainland Europe, located 40 km west of Lisbon. It has a monument with a stone plaque that has inscribed its coordinates. On top of the 140 meters above sea level cliffs, we can find the lighthouse and a tourist shop. This place was defined by poet Luís de Camões as : "where the land ends and the sea begins".

Madeira

MadeiraMadeira is one the Autonomous regions of Portugal, and it is an archipelago facing the Atlantic Ocean, with only 2 inhabited islands, Madeira Island and Porto Santo. It was known to the Romans as Purple Islands, and the region was rediscovered in 1418 by Portuguese sailors. Famous for its Madeira Wine, perfect climate, great landscapes and spectacles, Madeira is a year round resort.

Coimbra

Coimbra_viewOne of the most important urban centers in Portugal, Coimbra was the capital of the country from 1139 to 1260, and has a huge archaeological site with ruins dating from the time it was a Roman town. It is a very important cultural center, having the oldest university in Europe, The University of Coimbra, which was founded in 1290.
It also has a great variety in parks, forest and gardens, like the Botanical Garden and the Mata Nacional do Choupal.

Estoril

Estoril_1Estoril is a civil parish of the Portuguese municipality of Cascais. The Estoril coast is close to Lisbon, and starts in Carcavelos, 15 kilometres from Lisbon, and stretches as far as Guincho. The two main resort towns are Estoril and Cascais. Estoril has a famous casino, the Estoril Casino, and was the residence of Juan de Borbón, the pretender to the Spanish throne during the last part of the 20th century. Estoril used to be a significant fishing port and since the early 20th century it has been important mostly as a tourist destination, where you can find remains of Roman mansions dating back around 2,000 years, motorsport like Moto GP, and an annual ATP tennis tournament.

Ponte de Lima

Ponte_lima_1 Ponte de Lima is a municipality in Portugal, which is composed by 51 parishes, in the disctrict of Viana do Castelo. It is one of the oldest towns in Portugal, and it was a Roman settlement, in the road from Braga to Compostela and Lugo. On every second Monday, this city holds one of the largest country markets in Portugal. The attractive rural area around has the largest concentration of baroque manors in Portugal, and some of them provides accommodations.

Évora

Evora Évora is located in Alentejo, south of Portugal. It is composed  by the parishes of Santo Antão, São Mamede and Sé e São Pedro in the historical centre and the urban parishes of Bacelo, Horta das Figueiras, Malagueira and Senhora da Saúde outside the ancient city walls where most of the population in fact reside.
The municipality is composed of 19 parishes, and is located in the District of Évora. Évora was ranked first in a study concerning competitiveness of the 18 Portuguese district capitals
